It's your first day of paintball and are pumped to get on the road...but the eternal question hits you: What to wear? What to Wear?
Well first off... The most important thing you will wear (besides your mask of course) is your shoes. Bring something that has traction, ankle support, can get really dirty and won't hurt your feet! Don't get a new pair of boots on the way to the field unless you bring an ample supply of Band-Aids! If you do get new footwear, wear it at home for several days before you bring it to the field. Also, invest in a pair of socks designed (yes, socks are technological wonders, just like paintball gear!) for sports use. I have seen people wear lots of different things while playing. The happy people tend to wear light hiking boots or football cleats. There are some very nice shoes made for paintball. Check with your local store for more info about paintball specific footwear. Alternatives are high top sneakers, but remember, they will get dirty (often very dirty). You might want to wear gloves if you have them. If you don't, buy a cheap pair of brown cotton gardening gloves. You can cut the gloves to allow you to "handle" things better. I would suggest that you cut the top half off of the glove finger that you use to pull the trigger. One of the best things to wear is a hat. A base ball cap will keep you out of the sun when it's out, and will allow your mask to fit better if you turn it backwards. A hat will also keep the splatter out of your hair, and protect your head if you get shot. Get one. As for the rest of your clothes, wearing long sleeves and pants should do the trick. Wear something durable; cargo pants work very well and so do jeans. Wear long sleeves, the idea here is to cover most of your skin to take away the sting. In addition, make sure not to wear you favorite new clothes. Paintball is played outside in the dirt, you may be slidding or laying in the dirt. ALL OF THE PAINTBALLS USED AT THE BLITZ ARE WATER SOLIABLE, THEY WILL NOT STAIN! Just to relieve any concerns. Also, wear everything in layers. It can get really hot out on the field and when you’re wearing 10 layers, you are likely to become a walking rotisserie. It’s a trade off...more layers, less sting...more uncomfortable. Less layers, more sting....but very uncomfortable. The first time I ever went out to play paintball, I wore maybe 5 layers…not only did I look like a walking marshmallow, but by mid day I was huffing and puffing for lack of air and boiling in my own sweat. I’ve been playing paintball for 10 years now, and I have never worn more then 2 layers during the summer again, it's more painful being hot, then getting hit. |
